El pianista y compositor Hern�n Lugano es uno de los m�sicos de mayor proyecci�n internacional de la Argentina. Vive en Bariloche hace quince a�os, pero pocos saben de �l y convive como un vecino m�s, con la modestia de los grandes. Astor Piazzolla, entre otros, lo elogi� por su talento. Y ahora emprende una gira por el Viejo Continente, donde catalogan a su m�sica como "tangojazz". Buena ocasi�n para ser la Noticia del D�a.

El pianista y compositor barilochense Hernan Lugano, iniciar� una gira de conciertos de piano por Alemania, Suiza y Holanda entre el 3 y el 27 de Noviembre.
Hernan Lugano, quien esta radicado en Bariloche desde hace poco menos que 15 a�os, es sin lugar a dudas, una de las figuras musicales mas importantes de esta ciudad, y posiblemente uno de los pocos m�sicos que mantienen una intensa actividad musical fuera del pais, lamentablemente muy poco conocida entre nosotros.
El m�sico manifest� a esta redacci�n que se tratar� de conciertos de piano solo cuyo repertorio estar� integramente conformado por obras propias, y que esta m�sica ya ha sido denominada TangoJazz por la prensa europea en el ano 1999.
"A m� las categorizaciones mucho no me quedan, b�sicamente por que no hago un �nico tipo de g�nero musical, pero es obvio que para promocionar un concierto, la publicidad debe estar dirigida al publico adecuado e interesado en consumirlo y es por este motivo que surgen tales denominaciones.", expres� el pianista, coincidiendo en que el t�rmino es acertado para definir solamente una parte de lo que presentar� en estos conciertos. "Evidentemente se trata de jazz moderno improvisado sobre ritmos argentinos,no solamente el tango, sino una amplia gama de variantes ritmicas de que disponemos en este pais, como por ejemplo la Charanda, baile de origen afro que solo se toca los 6 de enero en una localidad de la provincia de Corrientes llamada Empedrado, que tiene un golpe especifico con ningun parecido a otros ritmos de aqui. Tom� contacto con esto, investigue sus cadencias y desde hace un tiempo estoy improvisando sobre ellas, componiendo e introduciendo elementos de otras m�sicas."
La gira dara una vuelta por Malmoe y Estocolmo (Suecia), Berlin y Heidelberg (Alemania) , Rotterdam (Holanda), Zurich (Suiza) y Salzburgo (Austria), y al finalizar le dedicara 2 semanas a la grabaci�n de un nuevo material:
"Es material del a�o 2001, que editaremos ahora, junto al cubano trompetista de Irakere Luis Alvaro Varona que reside en Dinamarca, que es donde se producira esto." Lugano se present� en la pasada fiesta de la manzana con notable repercusion, junto a su trio, conformado por el roquense Andres Fuhr en Contrabajo y Ernesto Zeppa en bateria, sobre lo cual manifest�: "...la experiencia en horas de navegaci�n de este trio es muy corta pero muy potente, creo que no hay muchos trios asi en el pais, por la propuesta musical que plantea y fundamentalmente por el nivel de vuelo y tremenda quimica que se ha dado entre nosotros...espero poder desembarcar en Europa con ellos el a�o proximo."

can read some spanish, I�d like to know if
this last interview is alrready available in english..

about Lugano�s music:
I�ve hear him many times in differents
music situations, in differents countries, etc..
Conservative argentine musicians know about him and respect him, but nobody is talking about his contribution to argentine and american music, I think, maybe, because nobody can create and play the music he does. it separated him from the others.
I see him as a very interesting combination of keith Jarrett, Yupanqui, Gismonti, Piazzolla,etc
a musician that is bilingual in managing
jazz& classical idioms, heavy &deeply into
latin genres, from caribbean, brazilian & argentine music.
Tango-Jazz is just a name to describe part of his universe, because tango is just a part
of argentine musical lenguages lugano uses to improvise and compose new music,
but, after listening his tango crossovers
I discovered the most balanced & inspiring
blanding between tango and jazz.
That�s why people all over is paying more and more attention to him

many people are now in 2002 talking about
tango-jazz, jazz-tango etc...
I first heard Hernan Lugano�s music in 1986
in copenhaguen and by that time I had already
not just developed a completely new
musical lenguage that mixed jazz, tango and some other latin related grooves, but also had received the best comments form piazzolla, horacio salgan and many others.
I think we should consider him as a truly
innovator, a tango and latin-jazz revolutionary
a kind of argentine mario bauza.
