The English voiceover turns this into a farce, sounding virtually like cheerleaders piloting mecha. The mediocre animation and abysmal plotting help nothing here, this is a mess.

Regarding the Power Dolls OVA(s) - I found them to be disappointing. Having played the PC game (a tactical mecha game of some merit), I was expecting something much more action-orientated. Instead, the first OVA made it clear this was to be the story of the faces behind the mechs, with your requisite dramatic speeches about purpose in front of crowds of refugees, and breaking off from the battle to engage in angst-ridden self-sacrifice, etc. Unfortunately, the dubbed dialogue seemed to really lack in emotion or depth; it was difficult to care for our heroines when they sounded like they were reading their English reports from High School. Amazingly, the English dubb of Power Dolls features the return of the "Duh" to fillup so many of the Japanese dialogue syntaxes; not since Harmony Gold's "Robotech" have I heard the old A. A. / Carl Macek standby. I was also put off a bit by the animation quality, but hey: I'm a fan and I'm spoiled, and I admit I have a problem. I think the first OVA could have been improved by giving us a good reason to care at the beginning, then launched into the lengthy dialogue about fighting for the Doll way of life.
