I was hoping for a whimsical comedy on the level of I'm Gonna Be An Angel (Tenshi ni Narumon). I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

The creators seem to have thrown in all manner of random references and gags in the vain hope that at least some of them come off as funny. While this works for Excel Saga, it doesn't work for Trouble Chocolate. At ALL.

Part of the problem is the acting, which seems calculated to be as annoying as possible. (Not the English, the Japanese.) How the director can so utterly waste talent like Tange Sakura is at once astounding and upsetting.

When all an anime has going for it is color design, it is obvious that it's time to move on. Life is too short for stuff like this.
