A sprawling epic that occasionally gets lost in its own details, Venus Wars isn't a total success, but essentially takes a look at futuristic war from a mindset similar to Gundam. (No surprise, the director is Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.) The integration of live action with animation is FAR less successful, bringing back unbidden memories of The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (but in reverse) rather than looking remotely good. The worst part is that the dub really chops down a lot of the background and character work -- it's hard to care about what's going on when the characters are cyphers. The original dialogue improves things, though.
