I wasn't so impressed by the blood and gore, so much as the attempt to cram hundreds of pages of manga into a movie-length feature. While not entirely successful in telling a coherent story, Akira does succeed as a memorable and worthwhile experience in skilled animation, albeit an often frustrating and confusing one. Don't get me wrong - this is a good movie. But it's not the best ever.

The best anime ever. The animation is brilliant, and the plot is great. I admit the plot is complicated, but the second time you watch it, it comes in to place. The sequence of Neo-Tokyo exploding at the end is great for a movie over a decade old. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie must see it (unless you are sensitive to violence, although the violence adds to the great animation.)

Some people think that this anime was too disgusting to bear(Tetsuo's guts falling out for about a half a second), but no way! NOOOOOO WAY!!! Not for me! I kept going to Best Buy and seeing the movie there, just WONDERING what it was like.. So I bought it, watched it, and LOVED IT TO DEATH! Kaneda is AWESOME and Tetsuo is AWESOME(My fave character. I LOVE HIS EVIL LAUGH!)!! But the little blue dudes kinda creeped me out.. They were creepy and cute at the same time. Creepily cute. Ha. I scare myself. I think my favorite part of the movie was the animation. The movements were so realistic! So natural! And the dubbing wasn't too bad either! I got the soundtrack too. Not too shabby for a 10 track disc I got for 35 bucks!

Wow. This is one of the best Anime movies I've ever seen. A little confusing at times but it's still very well done and the animation quality is very good.

The movie was cool, but that was one of the most garbled translations i have ever seen in a foriegn movie. Sometimes the titles would only stay up for 1/4 of a second, the grammer was horrible and a LOT of sentances ended with a prepression and ........ I was expecting to see "how are you gentelmen, all your base are belong to us." Visually it rocked the house, even being a 14 year old movie. Sound also top notch. If you have 2 hours to kill, rent it, but remember that all this is good except.......

It was so awesome! this is definetly one of my favorite movies. even thought i had to watch it twice to get the full understanding of it, it was still awesome. i like how it confuses people haha. i made my friend watch it and she sed it confused the hell out of her.

This classic set the quality standard for anime in the 1990's. It is beatiful, violent, disturbing, and yes, it's confusing. You will need to pay close attention to have a chance of understand the ending. A must see for any sci-fi/horror fan.
Who or what is Akira? The manga and anime take (slightly) different paths in telling the story, and I would recommend that anyone who enjoys the movie, go get the manga. It is being re-released in a collection of 6 books in the original black and white. The anime has just been released in DVD format, and I would recommend to all Akira fans to get the special edition with all the extras! (Special note: the DVD has been re-translated and re-dubbed into english.)
Not rated, but should be rated R for extreme violence, language, and (very brief) nudity.

Ummm... well my brother kind of forced me to watch it, but it was pretty good. There was plenty of action to keep me interested and the plot was really inventive. Although the animation wasn't anything special, the big blob thing was absolutly amazing! Definately a CLASSIC!!

Akira, Akira, Akira. I caught a lil bit of it on Sci-Fi a few years back. I've been an Anime Junkie ever since. I own somewhere in excess of 300 something titles, including bootlegs and what not..all thanks to THIS movie. Excellent storyline, excellent acting, excellent music, excellent art, and I definetly cannot wait for the remake coming out on July 27th if im not mistaken. If you havent seen it, hop to, if you have, im pretty sure you agree with me here. Akira is not only a classic, but a milestone in anime. "Sugoi"

Certainly one of the best films, not just animes, around. I recently saw the digital re-release of the film and I must say that it's just as powerful as it was the first time I saw it almost eleven years ago. This was the film that introduced me to the world of anime. The sheer magnitude of the work is awe-inspiring.
Yes, the film has its flaws; however, taking the film in the greater contex of it's creation one can truly say that it is a technical masterpiece.
There are those who look to it for flaws in the detail whether that concerns the graphic depictions or the plot but those details are its greatest strength. Additionally, when first went to see the movie those many moons ago I knew nothing of the film, after I came out of the theatre I was stunned...stunned to see animation approach a level of complexity that I had not seen before. And yes there have been animated films to come afterwards with surpassed the quality found in this film, however, none has the ....fiestyness or heart of this film. One final note, the soundtrack is also by far the best musical ochestration I have heard.
If one has the opportunity to purchase it, do so. It adds a certain depthness to the film which is a one point jubilant to hauntingly eerie. So I will say the Akira is my favorite film of all time.

this is a very good and deeep anime. This is the type of anime that you need to watch a cuple of time to trully appreciate it actual quality. The music when need, just to add great paranormal feeling to it. Also when Tetsou's intestens fall onto the ground(so he though),but the whole time it was total silence, it quiets all other thoughts at that paticular moment. When I watch this film I feel as though I am engulfed in greatness. This is a movie to own and to just pull out when company comes by.

Akira has to be the TIGHTEST anime movie ever. It was awesome. I first saw it in Japan in the Japanese language, and couldn't understand it . . . but it was still tight cuz the fighting scenes are AWESOME. Then when I got home to the states, I rented the dubbed version, and it was even better. The movie was hard to understand, but when watching it and actually paying attention, you really can understand it. Maybe some people should try listening and using their brains if they don't understand it!

Although 本作 was seen after finishing reading comics, how to summarize a tale by the cause which was too short having show time is not good.
The character (especially Mr.
miyako) which can employ efficiently with it and is not れてい also becomes the feeling which exists, and was looked and chagrined deeply.
However, illustrating and the image were splendid and its music was also good.
Performance of a voice actor is not bad, either.
