Sure there are great anime that are older; 8 Man, Gigantor, Speed Racer, Lupin The 3rd. But Ranma is like a gateway drug. If you know anyone who thinks Anime is all "Robots & Fighting", show them Ranma and they will be hooked. Then they can move on to harder stuff like Chobits, or the really hard stuff like Elfen Lied. Not only is Ranma in my "Top 10 of All Time", it's at the top of it's own seperate list! Other great gender-swapping anime are; Kashimashi, a relitive new comer to the genre, and Tenshi na Konamaiki aka (Cheeky Angel), which is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, Girl-Type Ranma herself, in case you can't get enough Ranma. Ranma 1/2 is very very funny, even leaving out the gender changing. Sometimes the humor takes a few cheap shots, but hey, don't we all? Something I like a lot about this series is that it stays lighthearted. Sometimes I end up feeling worried, or even depressed, when reading a manga, especially if I can't find out what happens next! This seldom happened in Ranma, it always left me feeling happy and relaxed after reading it, something that's a nice change from the more serious manga/anime like the latter volumes Dragon Knights or Cowboy Bebop. Don't get me wrong, I love both the latter series, but when I feel a need for a pick-me-up, Ranma always does it. The only problem I could see is that it's less than appropriate for younger audiences, though the story itself is't the problem. Enough chest shots already, we get the point, Ranma changes into a girl!
