I haven't read any of the manga and am quite clueless to the plot. However, it was good for what it was worth. First I read the mangas (or what has been released, anyways), and I completely fell in love with the amazing artwork. Then I bought X the movie, and I was a little disappointed that they didn't follow the original plot, but still impressed that they managed to compress this complex series into a single movie - and still make it look good! I have now started collecting the TV series, and while, in my opinion, the art is not as good, it follows the plot very well, and I simply LOVE the opening theme, eX dream. I also love the implied shounen-ai between Kamui and Fuma (I'm a major fan of protagonist/antagonist pairings, what can I say?); I think it really adds to the complexity and depth of the relationship, both between Kamui and Fuma, and Kamui and Kotori. I didn't really get what all was going on but by the time I got into about half the movie I started understading it. My favorite Dragon of Heaven would definetely have to be Kamui. It's my favorite of all time. CLAMP's best work by leaps and bounds. Most people in America are only aware of the movie of the same name, which tried unsucessfully to cram a 20 volume manga series (which at the time of the movie's release was not even finished) into a 90 minute film that of course, barely made sense. Nonetheless, it was beautifully animated and had an very interesting and unique storyline. The movie barely gave time for introduction of every character before they were dead in battle--much less their backgrounds and individual pasts. The TV series made up for the mistake of the film.
