Kaiba is a complete moron who probably will never get a clue that he cant take on a certain person, no matter HOW MUCH people tell him that he cant take on someone. I know he's supposed to be a tough guy and all, but he is just ridiculus. Not only that, this guy is a power moniker. Gosh, someone get this guy a copy of Simcity or something, as this guy has so many powertrips it's not even funny. And then of course, are the various duelists that pop up, time after time, challenging them hopeing to catch them off guard. Of course, this entire show feels as kiddie as Pokemon. Plus, not just that, even though I know how to play the CCG based on this anime, I STILL cant figure out how they did a move, especially when that move/combo wouldnt work at all had they been going by the actual rulebook. Although, I have been judging the dubversion, so probably half of the complaints have been brought around because of how crappy the dub is. At least Pokemon wasnt as bad as this. It was actually cohesive (despite the TV station playing episodes out-of-order) and felt a lot like the Gameboy game. Yu-gi-oh, however, just feels like watching someone having a powertrip. I think I'll keep the Spongebob instead, thank you very much. The reason of this, is because they wanted to make it for kids, so the took out the danger, all the good shadow games (i'll get on that in a second)and just turned it into another edited piece of crap. However...it was not always like that. In the old story, when the main character yugi, was in danger, or his friends where, the spirit of his puzzle whould come out and would challange the villain to a shadow game (example, in one part of the first volume, an escaped killer takes yugi's friend Anzu (or as you know her in the show, as Tia) hostage and threatning to kill her with his gun, yugi has to get him the things he asked for (achohal, cigeretts, and a lighter...they are at a resteraunt at the time, the killer came in because he was out of energy, trust me, this is a great chapter though)and yugi had to get the stuff, being Anzu (the hostage) is the waiter there to) but after Anzu yells at Yugi to not come any closer, its to dangerous, the killer hits her in the face and Yugi can't stand it anymore and his alter ego (dark yugi) takes over. The shadow game here, he explains whoever loses the game, will die (the killer thinks he's crazy). Yugi explains the rules; as long as the two of them sit at the table facing one another, they may each move one of their ten fingers. once the game begins they cannot move any other fingers, or change the one they choose, only the one they choose. The killer, chooses the index finger on his gun. and dark yugi, his thumb (now the killer thinks yugi's crazy, but you will love what happens) *by now, the killer has his cigerett in his mouth, and is pouring his acohal, just to get an idea how the picuter feals* the game begins, and the killer has the gun at yugi's head, and says he will send him to hell in an instent. but, then yugi pulls out somthing, the lighter for the killers cigarettes. the killer says all he can do is light his cigarette, and he would kill Yugi after that. *yugi lights the cigarette, but...with the lighter still on, he puts it on the hand of the killer thats pouring the alcohal. puzzled at what yugi is trying to do, he notices that his alcohal begins to overflow.... and is all over his side of the tabel, and all over his pants as well....he would shoot his gun at Yugi, but the recoil would make him drop the lighter for sure.....Yugi then takes Anzu away from here, and leaves the killer stranded....untill...he can't hold the lighter any longer. game over. this was straight out of the manga, and thank god they didn't do to it what they did to the show. it has all kinds of danger in it, and all kinds of shadow games ( this was read out of the shonen jump, from the recent storys of yugioh; When the Millennium Puzzle activates, Yugi becomes a reckless gambler, risking anything for a game...and to protect the lives of his friends. He's played the Game of one finger (the shadow game i was talking about), where Yugi's thumb competed against an escaped convict's finger on the trigger of a gun. He's played the mumbletly-peg with sadistic hall monitor for the stakes of 400,000 yen (in the game, you put a stack of money on you're hand...and with a dagger in the other, try to pick up more than one bill). He's played the Game of Silence against a class bully who loved Karaoke. and, probably my most favorite in the first volume, he's played the Game of Table Ice Hockey with Explosives over a Hot Grill (calling it, griddle ice hocky). and those are just from the first volume....so, as i've heard here, its not just a story with cards (though, Yugi does play a magic and wizards card game with Kaiba, but...after beating kiaba the first time, Kaiba wants to challange yugi again with his...death T (a series of his own "shadow games", some of which include, a game of lazer tag, but yugi, Jonouchi (Joey in the cartoon) and Honda (Tristen in the cartoon)don't know they are going up against real killers, with real lazer guns, another is the game of silence (like the one in the first volume) but if you make one sound...just one... the chair you're sitting in, will send 10 million volts of electricity to the one sitting in the chair. the next...is a riddle, but with a high risk, solve the riddle in five minutes...or all three of them will lose their right hand's (you will understand if you read). and in the next one, probably the most dangerous, Jonouchi has to go up against a monster called "the chopman" in a fight to the death (you will see how this is dangerous when you go up against a person you're chained to who has a chainsaw) and the one after is a dangerous puzzle game where you gotta get to the exit without getting crushed by huge blocks. if yugi where to back down from kabia's death T, he would have killed Yugi's grandfather. so I pointed out that Yugioh is an ok comic, so before you put it down, try it out. i thought the comic was gonna be like the show, and all i can say is "i wish i read it sooner" (though, some of the situations are a bit dangerous, so i would say atleast 13 and up) 2004/03/19 Worst(-3 pnt) [Edit/Delete/Suggest to delete/Show only this review or post sympathy comment/] by The black cat (Skip) Review history[Good:0(0%) Normal:0(0%) Bad:1(100%)] / Provider: 5781 Host:6046 Browser: 4204 *shudder* Yugioh is the worst.. It really DOES give anime a bad name. :\ The character designs are either very horrible or ripped off of another anime (IE That one antagonist with the brown hair.. You'd have to be in denial not to admit that he looks a lot like Legato Bluesummers from Trigun), and the plot is also way to over-used (whee more battling monsters e_e; ). Aside from all that the artwork is very bad, and it's historicly incorrect (Egypt had clowns and Celtic knights? Why? I can simply say because: 1.) The animation is horrible and the people are disfigured (Their hair looks like its just made of plastic o.O) 2.)Whoever "created" Yu-Gay-Oh must've been aware that they were using such cliche themes (suchs as using monsters, having to defeat several opponents in order to become "the best", etc., etc...) in a desperate attempt to get money. The storyline is kind of interesting, when they're not playing the stupid dueling game. It's all the same old, same old. Monsters fight eachother with stupid techniques, and Yu-gi-oh always wins. Plus these corny little speeches about love and caring. It's kind of nice that they care about eachother, but they don't have to drag out the speeches forever. We get the idea! Some of the characters need serious help. Like Pegasus, for example. Everyone agrees with me that he's gay. He's always drinking and reading comic books. And evil laughing by the sunset, in that wierd, high-pitched gay voice. Tai is gay too. They only put her in, because they wanted a girl to be in Yugio's crowd, so not to offend women. I find her a serious insult. She's too typical stereotype girl. If they wanted to put a girl in Yugio's crowd, why not make her interesting? Her giant blue eyes scare the crap out of me. To make the show less boring, they should add less dueling, and more of that reading-mind stuff. The shadow world and everything are somewhat interesting. The millenium items are cool. The problem is they're rarely in any real danger. SO they get banished to the shadow world. Big deal. They always have Yugi to free them. The plot gets kind of old after awhile, and the characters aren't that realistic to me. I think that both the people that say Yugioh is the best, and the people that totally and utterly curse out Yugioh, are wrong. Most often, only fans will comment on this page, anyway. The way the game plays out in the TV show is amusing to watch, but that's about it. The part that completely throws out the good opinion of Yugioh for me is the "Heart of the Cards". I'm not saying this is completely corny, but that it explains why most fans of Yugioh are younger children. Whenever there seems to be an impossible situation, Yugi will "trust in the heart of the cards", have flashbacks of his friends and the people he needs to save, and then draw the card. Of course, by now, everyone knows that Yugi will draw the card that will save him. It's clever the way it plays out, but sometimes, the card that Yugi's drawn has never been seen before, and viewers can only watch as Yugi slowly explains how he will win with his new-drawn card, and then the opponent gasps in horror, or smiles with false confidence. Also, often after a commercial break or something, usually Joey will say they don't understand how the duel is playing out; then the "bad guy" will look exasperated, andsay, "How many times do I have to go through this?" and then explain the rules again, so that younger audiences understand. Also, I don't know if the English voice acting is simply bad or something, but I find myself wondering at the incredible unrealism of some of the serious parts. Finally, parts like when Tea is wondering, "It's as if there are TWO Yugis!" just don't strike me as surprising. Sometimes, the opponents are so embarassingly bad that it's painful to watch, like the time Yugi had to get past the twin brothers that talked in riddles, and the time Yugi had to go against Bonz ("I play... Call of the HAUNTED!") By now, you're probably wondering what good I have to say about Yugioh. Well, the plots of SOME duels are OK, and battles like Yugi VS. Pegasus have lots of twists and turns, making the viewer want to watch more. Also, although it's corny, times like when Yugi's friends are blocking Pegasus from reading Yugi's mind in the Shadow Realm are kind of touching.
