Released in the US as "Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires", this is an addictive game that adds a couple of new twists, including the long-awaited ability to give orders to your subordinates in battle (though this is simplistic -- attacking / defending / converging on the main character / independent control). The edit character system is improved in some ways, but it seems the "height / weight" meters are a bit underutilized. I wish the Japanese voice-acting were included in the US release like in previous installments of the series, but overall, the presentation is passable. Otherwise, very little change in the game engine, though at least the soldiers have the good sense to flee when their commanders are felled (unlike in Dynasty Warriors 5 vanilla). Visually, the engine looks almost dated compared to others on the market, but at least they keep the history and plot reasonably intact, unlike Sengoku Basara's US release ("Devil Kings"). The game play hasn't changed too much overall, it's still the same, familiar button-mashing action we've grown accustomed to. A half-step forward, like all Empires games.
